Z-moves

To support Zonta Says NO and the 16 Days of Activism, Zonta Club of Kowloon will join hands with ACSVAW to co-organize the Z-moves Art Festival in 2014. Z-moves means “Zonta Moves the World” spreads “Zonta Says NO” message through arts in order to end gender-based violence. This event is the first of its kind being held in Hong Kong: a multi-media art festival aiming at raising awareness of gender-based violence in Hong Kong, China.

Within the past experience of education, we can seem that parents are limited by the traditional sense of sexual normally, and regard all the sexual topics into ‘For your own good, don't ask, that's my word’. When parents regards sex is a dirty, unsuitable or secret things, teenagers will start think that sexual is connected with shame and evil. If they cannot find the answer from family, they will turn to seek help from peer, media of internet or by their own experience.

A teacher said that in a school talk about sexual violence, a few girl afraid to come crosser the exhibition, a boy even said,' Sexual violence is none of my business'. It reflects that teenagers are cognitive deficits toward sexual violence. Also, the mainstream curriculum cannot provide a open channel to learn about sexual related knowledge.

Z-moves is a movement via creating art to eliminate gender-base violence. We believe that art has a power to improve the self-strengthening of women deeply. And arise the attention of gender-base violence in different people and promote the message of peace.

Every words, every behaviors are an attitude. Despite how weak the power, when all the power add up together, we can change the society. Gender-base violence is not an individual’s problems; it influences everyone in the society. In Hong Kong, 1 in every 7 women has suffered sexual violence. It exists between you and me. We hope to raise public awareness of gender-base violence through this Art program and change the community gradually. Let’s construct a gender equality living environment.
